HL 470 2006 open edition In Stock Portland Breakwater, ME Portland Harbor was ravaged by a fierce storm in 1831 afterwards officials began construction on a breakwater to protect the town. Started in 1836 building was halted for lack of funds, and completed in 1854. This little light is a replica of the second light that was built when the breakwater was extended. Local's refered to it as "Bug Light". This regal sentinal with it's cast iron tower and fluted columns kept watch over Maine's waters until it was extinguished in 1942 during World War II. Renovated and relit in 2002 by the City of Portland and the Maine Historical Preservation Committee. And it even lights up, with AC power cord or batteries.
