Egmont Key sits on a sandbar at the entrance to Tampa Bay. While the original beacon in 1836 was a barrel painted black and white on top of an 80-foot long spar, the Egmont Key light and keeper's house was completed in 1858. The light is only accessible by boat and tour groups bring over 100,000 visitors a year to this historic site.
